I kinda figure “humans” are just regular humans… The difference between a “human” and a stray would be the method by which they arrived. “humans” just fall asleep, strays are transported bodily. Think of Emily’s dream at the beginning of the comic. At that point, she wasn’t far off from the god-like “humans”.

A note of interest: Her name is actually “Xuan.” Yeah that was my bad, the “X” is missing most of a foot, but that was back in the days of my clumsy hand-lettering.
